St Clare’s Care Home is a purpose-built single storey building with a fully enclosed central garden and gardens around building where families and friends can sit in privacy, there are also 24 individual bungalows on site. These are privately owned, and have daily visits by a warden.
St Clare’s Care Home is located in a quiet and tranquil residential area on Birchwood Avenue with wonderful views in to central and surrounding gardens. The Home is very close to Birchwood Leisure Centre and local shops where residents can go for shopping independently.
St Clare’s Care Home has been recently taken over by Care For Your Life Ltd on 01-06-2018 and fully renovated the home with new carpets, painting and lighting. St Claire’s care home offers accommodation for people aged over 65 years old who require personal care, and/or dementia care. It also caters for people with physical disabilities (over 55 years). There are 31 single bedrooms, 7 en-suite rooms and further 2 walk-in shower rooms are added in 2018 for people with fully independent living. All rooms are fitted with a wash basin & mirror. There is also a designated Dementia wing with fully Dementia friendly environment with colour coded rooms, doors, designated dining area, activities room, own courtyard.
Bedrooms have been tastefully decorated, colour televisions are provided. Residents may wish to choose their own decor or partially furnish their bedroom with their own belongings. This is both welcomed and encouraged to enhance the informal and home- like atmosphere of the home whilst promoting familiarity and belonging. All bedrooms and en suites are fitted with a call aid system.
Our aim is to provide all residents with a life that is a normal as possible, given their individual health and care needs. We provide this in homely surroundings with care that will enable them to live as independently as possible with privacy, dignity and with the opportunity to make their own choices. To ensure this, we ensure that assessments of the needs are used to develop individual care plan.

The main entrance to the Home opens into a small foyer which contains reception which is staffed Monday to Friday during the day. The corridors in the home have grab rails fitted to assist residents and are generally of a good width allowing unimpeded wheelchair access.
The combination of carpeting, lighting and pictures help to give a homely atmosphere to the building. There are a number of lounges around the home the main one is called the Lancaster Suite where residents can take part in activities, watch television, listen to music or take part in coffee mornings. There are a number of smaller lounges which are quiet and can be used at any time by residents and families alike. The home has a large dining room but residents can choose where they eat for instance in their bedrooms or in the lounges. There are a number of assisted bathrooms and a shower room for those that prefer a shower.
Top quality food is prepared on the premises under the careful supervision of our head Chef. Fresh local produce is delivered 3 times a week. Service users can choose their meals from our varied and tempting menus which are distributed daily to ensure individual choices can be met. All tastes and special dietary requirements are easily catered for. Visitors are welcome to join relatives for a meal or snack.
The home is equipped with a Fire Alarm System and all staff receives regular fire awarenes training and fire drills are carried out weekly. Hoists, Moving and Handling equipment to assist in the safe transfer of Service Users are regularly audited to ensure best practice guidelines are upheld. An electronic weighing scale is used to assist in the ongoing monitoring of weight and the most advanced pressure relieving equipment is used throughout the home. “Monitored Dosage System” has been recently employed to safeguard best practice in relation to the storage and administration of medication.
A fully equipped laundry facility is available on site all residents’ personal clothing is to be clearly labeled with their name to prevent items getting lost or misplaced.
Chiropody services are provided monthly and Hairdressing facilities are provided within the home. Optician, Dentist or other visiting professional visits are available on request.
Amanda joined the St Clare’s Care Home in December 2017 Amanda has worked in the care sector for 32 years and has her registered managers award and working as a Home Manager from past 12 years and is currently working towards her level five. Amanda is always available for any questions that you may have regarding the Home or the residents. Amanda is available between the hours of 08:00 and 16:00, Monday to Friday. But should you wish to meet with her outside of these times please let her know and she will arrange a date and time to suit you.
Cherie Gardner is the Home Manager of St Clare’s Care Home.
Cherie has worked at St Clare’s Care Home since 1996. Prior to becoming the Manager in 2011 Cherie was a Senior Carer within the home. Cherie has achieved her Leadership & Management Award in 2011 and has completed her ‘Skills for care’ Managers Induction Standards.
